Philadelphia-Area Students Rally At Catholic Schools

Students at several Philadelphia-area Catholic schools slated for closure staged rallies Monday to voice their opposition to an archdiocese plan that would shutter 48 schools.
Dozens of students gathered outside St. Hubert’s High School for Girls carrying signs, chanting and singing the school’s Alma Mater.
St. Hubert’s is one of four Roman Catholic high schools slated for closure under a plan announced Friday by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. The plan would also close 44 elementary schools because of declining enrollment and rising costs.

Pa. school settles another webcam spying lawsuit

A suburban Philadelphia school district has settled another lawsuit over its alleged spying on students through laptop webcams.
A lawyer says Joshua Levin has settled his lawsuit against the Lower Merion School District. Lawyer Norman Perlberger tells The Philadelphia Inquirer (http://bit.ly/uihP4S ) the 2009 Harriton High School graduate will get more than the $10,000 offered to some other students, but says he can’t specify the amount.

Not Philadelphia 76ers guard Lou Williams, who told the Philadelphia Daily News Monday that on Christmas Eve he was held up by a armed carjacker, who ended up not getting anything from Williams but a nice talk and hot meal from McDonald’s.
On Monday night, Williams came off the bench to net a game-best 25 points in the 76ers 107-103, season-opening loss at the Portland Trailblazers.
